We know that Brazil is a violent place. According to the 9th Brazilian Public Security Yearbook published last year, more than 58,500 murders were registered in 2014. There are more than 160 homicides per day. The novelty is that these numbers are leaving the country with increasing prominence in the rankings of violence worldwide. The latest, a study by the Mexican NGO Council Citizen for Public Security and Criminal Justice, states that among the 50 most violent cities in the world, 21 are Brazilian.
The study does not explain how many cities were analyzed beyond the 50 indicated in the ranking, but its methodology makes clear that only localities with more than 300 thousand inhabitants entered the account - which excluded cities in small countries, mainly in Africa. In addition, the data had to be made available on the internet. From then on, the placement was given by the number of intentional homicides (where there is intention to kill), in proportion for every 100 thousand inhabitants.
Brazil is the country that most occupies the survey, but the most violent city does not stop here. The survey points out that the most dangerous place in the world is Caracas, Venezuela. According to the data presented, in 2015, the site registered 3,946 homicides among its 3,291,830 inhabitants, leaving its rate in little more than 119 murders for every 100 thousand inhabitants of the place.

In fact, even with Brazilian domination, Venezuela's indexes point out that our neighbor can be more violent than people in the big picture. When we calculate the average of the violence occurred in the Brazilian cities indicated by the study, we see a rate of 40.5 homicides. The number of Venezuelan localities is 76.6.
In comparison to the ranking made by the organization last year, Brazil's occupation only grew. Over 30% to be more accurate. In the last list, 16 Brazilian cities were on the list. Of them, the only one that managed to leave the table of the new edition was Belo Horizonte.
In addition to the 21 Brazilians, 8 cities in Venezuela, 5 in Mexico, 3 in Colombia, 2 in Honduras, 1 in El Salvador, 1 in Guatemala and 1 in Jamaica. So 41 of the fifty are located in Central and South America. The rest of the list was filled by 4 cities in the United States and 4 cities in South Africa.
