i need advice OI, I HAVE DEPRESSION. I NEED EMPATHY, NOT ADVICE!

OI, I HAVE DEPRESSION. I NEED EMPATHY, NOT ADVICE!

It is like floating in the middle of an icy ocean on a cloudy day, no matter how much you want to swim, your body does not respond, it is taken by the current and you watch your life pass before your eyes like a mere spectator, trying to support the water cold that paralyzes the senses and their actions. We can not escape when our body is our prison, our true tormentor.

For lack of information, much of society associates depression with sadness, laziness or freshness. Accompanied by all the stigmata, people suffering from the disease still deal with something cruel, often disguised as well-wish or friendly advice: lack of empathy. Depressors are crushed with advice like, 'You have to get out more!', 'Try to think positive!', 'It's just a phase!', 'You're not helping yourself!', 'You need to find Jesus!' Could a diabetic be cured if he simply pretended not to have the disease, throw all his insulin blisters away, attend a church faithfully and shout, 'I'm not a diabetic!'

It is not easy to fight against a disease that robs you of vitality, transforming what once gave pleasure into something insignificant, leaves you indifferent, deteriorates your self-esteem, making pessimism and tiredness take care of your being.

Sometimes we will move, we will swim against the current and we will have sunny days but do not be surprised if after that we feel tired and depressed and float back in the middle of the frozen ocean contemplating again those cloudy days or if we fight in awe without being able to escape from there Please do not yell at us from within your ships, do not throw buoys at sea, thinking that we will attain, from the comfort of your conversations you will not understand the force of the turbulent waters which we face.

There will be days that we will wake up in the middle of the Sahara desert, we will hear only the wind and the sand grains touch our bodies, we will look at all that immensity and we will not be able to reach the oasis where our friends and family beckon in the attempt to be seen by us, however, have you ever experienced seeing when the wind blows sand in your eyes? We will sit in the middle of the sub-Saharan sands and we will be consumed by the sandstorm that is advancing towards us. The violent storm will reach us and we will not sketch any reaction.

Depression is a pathology, it causes chemical changes in the brain. Advice will not help those who suffer from it, just as it would not help a diabetic. The correct way to help is to encourage the search for health professionals, but it is not enough to just encourage, have to understand and respect. If medical treatment is already done, be patient and understand that it will not be like a magic spell, although it provides a drastic improvement, it may be that some symptoms of the disease do not completely stop or come back and a half appear. Do not make life worse for people facing depression, do not believe that a self-help book or advice will cure a disease, so you will only accentuate the symptoms that haunt us already. Be empathic, empathy is what we need most.
